Our Ecology Pledge

Epic Terrain, Zero Guilt

At Dirt Cheap Dungeon, we believe your tabletop adventures shouldn’t come at the expense of the real world. Since 2019, we have been driven by a philosophy of efficiency and ecology, fixing design failings while protecting the planet.

🌲 Truly "Made in Oregon"

Here is how we are changing the game with sustainable, affordable, and Made in America manufacturing. While many companies rely on overseas production, we are proud to be 100% Made in America—specifically in Central Oregon.

  • We Do It All In-House: From designing, prototyping, and CNC machining our own molds to injection molding every plastic part (even the box handles), we handle it all in our own facility.
  • Local Sourcing: The only thing we don’t make ourselves are the cardboard boxes, which we source from a local partner just two hours away.
  • Cutting Carbon: Ocean freight shipping accounts for roughly 60% of global carbon production. By producing locally, we eliminate the massive carbon load associated with overseas manufacturing and reduce logistics and supply chain issues.

♻️ Material Science that Matters

We don't just use "plastic." Our engineer utilized a background in ecology to source a material blend that is safer, stronger, and greener.

  • 30% Less Plastic: We use a Polypropylene-based blend infused with 30% pre-consumer recycled natural fibers (think sawdust, hemp, etc). This immediately reduces our plastic load by nearly a third.
  • Safety First: Unlike PVC-blends (Dwarvenite) which releases chlorine gas during manufacturing or when burned, or ABS which releases VOCs during manufacture and hydrogen cyanide when incinerated, our PP-blend material is so chemically stable it is considered food-safe and non-leaching into the environment. No damaging chemicals into the environment!
  • Built to Last: We prioritize durability. Our terrain is designed to last for years, ensuring it stays on your table and out of the landfill.

⚡ Powering the Dungeon: Carbon Negative

We take energy consumption seriously. While we work toward solar power, our facility currently runs on 96% hydro-power and 4% wind-power - two of the cleanest energy sources available.

But we didn't stop there. We calculated the carbon footprint of our production, shipping, and employee commutes, and we offset that amount by double through tree planting partnerships.

Bottom Line: Dirt Cheap Dungeon is not just carbon-neutral; we are carbon-negative.

⚙️ The Efficiency Advantage

Why do we use Injection Molding instead of 3D printing? Because efficiency creates affordability for you.

  • Quality, Speed & Scale: Not only is the range of plastic selection better, but the resolution quality of injection molding is better than 3D printing.  As well, we can produce more parts in one minute with just one of our injection molders than a 3D printer can produce in 8 hours.  3D printing is excellent for bespoke individual unique parts, but for mass production - injection molding leads the way.
  • Circular Ecological Manufacturing: We grind up our waste parts (sprues and misprints) and re-feed them into the injection molding process. Roughly 20% of the material in the products you buy from us is recycled content from previous manufacturing runs.  For all black PP parts, we incorporate material from multiple other processes and the recycled material content is close to 80%!Fiber and Black PP Plastics Recycling into New Terrain Products
  • In-House Smelting: We even built a small aluminum smelter to recycle our metal shavings from CNC mold-making, keeping our metal recycling in-house rather than shipping it to China like most of the industry.

🛡️ Our Pledge

Our weekly manufacturing waste is less than what a typical single-family home produces.

We are proving that you can make high-quality, affordable terrain for the "every-person" without sacrificing the environment.
